The Special Marshals of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command on Friday organized a day workshop in road management, with hundreds of members which include the state and units’ commanders in attendance.

Penpushing reports that the workshop was held at the Valley View Auditorium, Government House, Abeokuta, the State Capital, featuring lectures titled, ‘Volunteerism in Road Safety Management: Possibilities and Limits’, and ‘Special Marshal Guideline’

The programmes of the workshop also include short drama by members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Cultural Dance by Road Safety Club, as well as award to distinguished unit members, decoration of Honorary Special Marshal, and decoration of Governor Dapo Abiodun as the patron

Penpushing further reports that Ogun State Coordinator of the Special Marshals, Elder Solomon Adeniyi in his welcome speech highlighted the roles of the marshals, stressing that they are not allow to be involved in any form of corruption or infraction when on the road or elsewhere.

The coordinator emphasized that they should see themselves a man of proven integrity, stressing that the amended act 2007 which established the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was to monitor road users with a view to providing constructive feedback to the corps.

Penpushing also reports that he added that they are to carry out traffic control and rescue operations as a team or squad in case of emergencies, participate in research activities relevant to road safety management

The marshal boss said the act added that they should organize, sponsor and participate in workshops, public enlightenment programmes and campaigns, assist road safety club in their activities, undertake specific annual projects on units, state and national basis with the approval of the Road Safety Headquarters through the national coordinator

Penpushing reports that Adeniyi who pointed out that there was no better time to tackle the two topics than now, added that the act in same vein, tasked the marshals on need to attend to any other function as may be assigned by the corps marshal or his representatives.

‘This moment marks a significant milestone in the life of special marshals in Ogun state, it is a time to know our accomplishments, to celebrate our growth and acknowledge our unwavering dedication in the service of humanity’, Adeniyi emphasized

‘Today we gather here, not only to listen to the lectures for the fun of it but to assimilate every point that lecturers will be dishing out to us. Also, to reflect on these points during our operational activities. Your sacrifice of service will not go unnoticed’, he added

Penpushing further reports that the coordinator boasted that the edifice being constructed by the special marshals at the Ogun State Command premises has no equal all over the country, describing it as still the best

‘We also have a master plan that is almost ready by the architect on how to give our mother command a face lift with a new sector commander’s office and additional offices for our officers which will commence as soon as the structure under construction is commissioned by God’s grace next year’, Adeniyi stated.

Penpushing also reports that Ogun State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Commander Anthony Uga in his address noted that a workshop of such nature will offer ample opportunities for evaluation and improvement.

‘The world is changing fast, our nation should not be left behind, we need to be at our collective optimum to overcome emerging challenges, especially in the road transport sector’, the commander said.

Penpushing reports that he noted that the theme of the workshop was rich and laden with lessons, hence, need for participants to explore the wide range of opportunities in Road Safety Management and remind themselves of the limits, some of which are clearly spelt out in the Special Marshal’s Guidelines.

‘It is equally pertinent to congratulate and commend the State Coordinator and other members of the Executive at the State and Unit levels for initiating and sustaining the vision of robust enforcement of traffic rules in the State as well as construction of Special Marshals secretariat’, he stated.

‘We must also be open to embrace innovations without which opportunities cannot be explored. Therefore, the workshop should strive at addressing innovative ways of improving road safety enforcement and education by Regular and Special Marshals’, Uga noted.

‘Again the workshop should also look at how Special Marshals can be useful in road safety engineering, and some of them who are Researchers, Engineers, Medical Practitioners and other professionals in Road Safety activities’, he added.
