A company Goldzek Multi Projects Limited owned by a retired Permanent Secretary in Ogun State Civil Service has sued Wema Bank PLC to court in Abeokuta, the State Capital  over illegal deductions from its account with the bank.

Penpushing reports that the claimant who was also a former Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Demola Badejo said the company has been a customer of the defendant (Wema Bank) since April 2021.

The claimant said the company Goldzek Multi Projects Limited discovered that there were some deductions in its account totaling N484, 028.14, adding that a diligent investigation revealed that the unauthorized deductions were made from May 2021 to January 2022.

Penpushing further reports that Badejo who is also a legal practitioner said the company then wrote a letter dated 15th March,2022 to the defendant, drawing its attention to the unauthorized deductions on the account.

The claimant said in response, Wema Bank Plc (defendant) wrote a letter explaining the reasons for the deduction and promised to refund the money deducted to the claimant’s account in five installments within 5 months.

Penpushing also reports that Badejo stated that the claimant sent a reminder letter dated 15th June, 2022 to the defendant and further instructed its solicitor to write a letter in February 2023, adding that despite the repeated demands and reminders by the claimant, the defendant has refused to refund the money.

The claimant in a suit instituted at the Magistrate Court Isabo, Abeokuta by its Counsel, O.D. Shangotola and co prayed the court to grant it the sum of N250, 000 only as damages and also demanded N250, 000 being the cost of the action, as well as an interest at 13% on the total judgment debt from the date of judgment until the judgment debt is fully paid.
