The Community Development Association (CDA) of the Ajebo Road Housing Estate under the banner of Property Owners and Resident Association (PORA) on Monday organized annual health talk aimed to address medical challenges of the residents

Penpushing reports that the event held at Baptist Primary School, Legbuwa, Kemta Housing Estate, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital had the topics, ‘Fitness for all Ages: How to stay active and Health Care for the Aged, while beneficiaries were offered medical tests which include sugar level, blood pressure and medical advice

The Chairman of the Ajebo Road Housing Estate, Dr Ayoola Ajasa in his welcome speech explained that programme was designed to educate and empower the community with vital health information, addressing pressing health concerns and promoting wellness of residents.

Penpushing further reports that he emphasized the importance of collective responsibility among residents in creating a safer and more beautiful environment, pointing out that the community has made significant strides in enhancing security and beautifying the estate.

The Chairman, however, called for continuous support from all members which he said was essential for these efforts to be sustained, emphasizing the need for residents to adopt healthier lifestyles, noting that healthy living plays a crucial role in improving the overall quality of life.

Penpushing also reports that Ajasa called on community members to actively participate in ongoing projects, stressing the collective responsibility everyone shares in fostering a safe and beautiful environment

The chairman in the same vein noted that the road passing through the community has since become a death trap, creating a security concern to the environment, emphasizing that the absence of speed breakers and other road traffic gauge on the road have turned the road to a haven of reckless driving, posing a constant threat to lives of residents of the community.

“I stand before you today to address a pressing concern that affects us all: the safety of Prof. Wole Soyinka Road. As we are all aware, this road has become a haven for reckless driving, posing a constant threat to the lives of our children, elderly, and everyone in between’, he stated.

‘The absence of speed breakers has created a culture of impunity, where drivers speed with reckless abandonment, disregarding the safety of pedestrians and other road users. We have lost count of the number of accidents, near-misses, and close calls to death and actual loss of lives on Prof. Wole Soyinka Road. Worse still, is the road being a thoroughfare for articulated lorries who pose great danger on the road”, Ajasa added

Penpushing reports that the community boss, however, used the occasion in calling on the Ogun State Government to as a matter of urgency construct speed breakers, lorry barriers and other traffic gauge to forestall avoidable accidents on the road.

“Enough is enough! We urge the state government, led by our amiable governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to take immediate action and construct speed breakers and lorry barriers on the Prof. Wole Soyinka Road, in Kemta Housing Estate, Idi-Aba. We are not asking for luxuries; we are demanding basic safety measures. Speed breakers are not only a necessary safety feature but also a deterrent to reckless driving’, Ajasa stressed.

‘I also use this medium to call on our eminent personalities in this great estate, who have access to the governor or his special advisers, to please use their connect to get the government to construct speed breaks and barriers for the articulated lorries”, he added

Penpushing further reports that a guest lecturer at the ceremony Adeaga Damilola delivered an insightful speech on the importance of fitness for individuals of all ages, stressing on the participants they should always have it in mind that health is wealth.

The Occupational Health Professional outlined several benefits of regular exercise, emphasizing that it enhances alertness, promotes healthy blood circulation, and significantly benefits heart health, pointing out that exercise can help alleviate insomnia and manage blood sugar levels, contributing to stronger bones.

Penpushing also reports that on her own part, Mrs Ayo Akinyemi of the Tranquility Clinic and Convalescent Home, Abeokuta stressed the importance of adopting healthier lifestyles and shared insights on how proper nutrition, regular exercise, and mental well-being contribute to a better quality of life.

The health expert encouraged residents to take proactive steps in their health journeys and equally highlighted the role of health education in empowering individuals to make informed choices that impact their overall well-being.
