Nigerian Muslims will on Monday commence the Ramadan fast, a period Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to dusk across the world which is expected to last between 29 or 30 days, according to the Islamic calendar
Penpushing reports that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar who heads the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) made this known in a live broadcast as he announced the sighting of the crescent moon.
The Ramadan is the ninth of the 12 Islamic months, commences with the sighting of the crescent moon to indicate the end of the outgoing lunar month of Shaban and the commencement of the new month of Ramadan.
Penpushing further reports that from dusk to dawn each day during Ramadan, millions of Muslims around the world would be expected to abstain from eating and drinking.
