A heavy rainstorm has destroyed an iconic hall at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife,Osun State, leaving many students injured, while the affected structure is the Amphitheatre of the Oduduwa Hall, where 100-level students were having an early morning lecture when the incident happened.

Penpushing reports that the Public Relations Officer of the University Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the incident in a statement but kept silence on the number of students affected, while a student identified as Gbolahan Latinwo, said six students were injured.

The spokesperson of the university as at the time of filing this report said the university management has sealed off the lecture hall indefinitely, stressing that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adebayo Bamire, led other principal officers of the institution to the medical and health centre of the university and ensured that the injured students were given adequate medical attention.

Penpushing further reports that Olanrewaju stated added that the Vice Chancellor equally followed two other students, whose cases demanded more medical attention to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC),

The university Public Relations Officer added that the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof John Okeniyi, in the same vein, physically supervised the management of the cases, adding that the Vice-Chancellor has appealed for calm and urged students and staff to go about their academic and administrative activities without any form of untoward action.

Meanwhile, sources, said two of the injured students were referred to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital before they were again transferred to the university teaching hospital, a campus-based publication said.
