A prominent lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Dr Wasiu Tejuoso has been elected as the new Head of the Department.

Penpushing reports that the emergence of Tejuoso followed a keenly contested elections in line with the new Polytechnic Act of 2019, where he defeated his opponent and classmate, Dr. Shola Adeosun, which was the maiden election of the department

The newly elected Head of Department had earlier been appointed by the Management of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) as Acting Head of the pacesetter department in Media and Communication Studies

Penpushing further reports that by this victory at the elections, Tejuoso now becomes the substantive Head of the department pending the ratification of the elections result by the institution Academic Board in line with the provisions of the Act.

The Head of the Department speaking after the victory, expressed gratitude to all members of staff who came to exercise their civic duty at the polls, despite the unfortunate incidence of the recent death of the department studio technician, which has weighed down almost all the staff members of the department.

Penpushing also reports that he decried rumours of faculty members conspiracy against his candidacy explaining that the elections was democratic and keenly contested while adding that there is no victor, no vanquish.

The Head of Department while reiterating his vision towards restoring the glory of the department as the pioneer in Media Studies among Polytechnics, asserted that he will operate an open-door policy where every member of staff will have the opportunity to contribute positively to the development of the department.

Penpushing reports that Tejuoso emphasized that Head of Department’s office is open to ideas that can bring progress and development and equally called on alumnus of the department to be ready to contribute to their alma mata especially at this auspicious time of re-accreditation of the programme.

The Department Head, who is also alumnus of the polytechnic described the victory as designed by God, assuring that he would do everything positively possible to retain the glory of the department as established by the founding fathers.

Penpushing reports that an elder and a member of the School of Communication and Information Technology which houses the department in his own remarks described the victory as the hands of God, describing what transpired especially at the last minutes of the elections as the mother of all conspiracy in academics.

The elder who does not want his name in print pointed out that it is a clear indication of the level of ethnocentric game being played in the department especially in recent times, and equally advocated for reconciliation, just as he warned that for the peace of the department, every waring parts should sheath their sword and allow peace to reign.
