The petrol station owners in Osogbo, Osun State Capital have jerked up their prices to N1,350 and N1,400 per litre following Wednesday’s increase in the pump price of petrol by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
Penpushing reports that findings across the town and environs revealed that number of the independent marketers have adjusted their petrol dispensing facilities to reflect the new price regime, while this was prominent in Ogo Oluwa, Ayetoro, Igbona, Estate and Lameco areas of the town.
The findings showed that motorists at various fuel stations were buying the product at N1,350 and N1,400 respectively, while it is recalled that before the sudden increment the products were been sold between N1,100 and N1,200 per litre, at privately owned stations, while the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) dispensed at N865 per litre
Penpushing further reports that scores of motorists in an interview raised alarm over the increment, expressing concern that the development may worsen the hardship Nigerians are currently facing in the country.
The commercial drivers declared that Nigerian government is wicked, and could not understand why President Bola Tinubu administration is not sensitive towards the welfare of the citizens, with a plea that government should reverse the price increase in the interest of the masses
‘This latest increase in the price of petrol by the government is unjustifiable bearing in the current economic crisis occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy in May by President Bola Tinubu, a motorist said
“This is wickedness on the part of our leaders. You can imagine how this increase in the price of petrol will affect the prices of goods, commodities and transport fares. How do they want us to maximise profit? he lamented
‘It was really hard before because we spent a large chunk of our (profit) on petrol. Now they increased the price again. Nigerians are barely struggling to survive amid the current economic hardship. This is like compounding the burden of the people’, he added
