The Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with Pearl Forensic Risk Advisory Services have organised a two-day specialised Forensic and Fraud Investigation Training for personnel of the Delta State Police Command.
Penpushing reports that the training, convened by His Royal Highness Erelu Dr Pearl Chidinma Ogbolu, brought together officers drawn from Area Commands, Divisions, Tactical Formations, and various departments across the Command.
The programme was aimed at enhancing officers’ capacity to investigate financial crimes, cyber-related offences, fraud, terrorism financing, and other emerging security threats.
Penpushing further reports that the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, in his welcome address commended the organisers and expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for approving the training and prioritising the continuous professional development of police personnel.
The Commissioner pointed out that the evolving nature of crime demands continuous learning and adaptation, particularly in the areas of forensic science, financial investigations, digital evidence management, intelligence gathering, and cybercrime investigation.
Penpushing also reports that he urged participants to maximise the opportunity and apply the knowledge gained to improve investigative efficiency, and reaffirmed the command commitment to intelligence-led policing and professional capacity building.
The commissioner stated that the training forms part of ongoing efforts to equip police officers with the knowledge and skills required to address contemporary security challenges adding that the command remains committed to continuous capacity development in line with global best practices
‘The Delta State Police Command remains committed to continuous capacity development in line with global best practices and the vision of the Inspector-General of Police to build a more professional, technology-driven, and service-oriented Police Force’.
Penpushing reports that the royal father who is the convener in his remarks emphasised the need to continually strengthen the capacity of law enforcement personnel to effectively combat financial crimes, cybercrime, corruption, and other complex criminal activities.
The training was facilitated by renowned experts, including Prof. Suleiman Aruwa, Dr Stacy Ann Nwodo, an expert in forensic accounting, security and strategy; and Mr Dilichukwu Alfred Ononugbo, a forensic investigator and criminal intelligence specialist.
Penpushing further reports that through practical exercises, case studies, and interactive sessions, participants were exposed to contemporary investigative techniques and global best practices in forensic investigation, financial intelligence, evidence management, and prosecution support.
The participants received training on Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF), collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), investigation of public sector fraud, financial investigation and presentation, crime scene management and evidence-gathering techniques, cyber and digital forensics, as well as the application of modern financial crime investigation tools.
