Four suspected cultists have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for assault, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm in Ilaro area of the state.
Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi made this known in a statement and gave identities the suspects as include Samson John (25) 28-year-old Olufowora Michael (28), Odeh Samuel Ejeh (25), and Olajide Jeremiah (28).
The police spokesperson in a statement explained that the arrest followed a complaint lodged at the Ilaro Division on April 16, 2026, adding that the suspects earlier in the day stormed his residence, assaulted him, threatened him with an axe, and robbed him of valuables
“On 16th April 2026 at about 11:30pm, a report was made at the station. The complainant stated that earlier on the same day at about 1pm, Samson John ‘M’, in the company of six other individuals, stormed his residence, assaulted him, threatened him with an axe, and robbed him of his mobile phone, an iPhone 14 Pro Max,” the statement read.
Penpushing further reports that Babaseyi said the suspects were apprehended following a swift response by operatives, while several items were recovered during the operation which include locally made pistol, an axe, suspected charms, and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max
“Upon swift response and subsequent investigation by the operatives, the suspects were apprehended. During the operation, one locally made pistol, an axe, suspected charms, and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max were recovered from them,” it added.
Penpushing also reports that the Babaseyi stated that the suspects as at the time of filing this report in custody, emphasizing that efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution’, he wrote.
Penpushing reports that the statement said the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, reiterating the command’s zero tolerance for cultism and violent crimes.
“He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for cultism and other violent crimes, assuring residents that all criminal elements will be decisively dealt with,” the statement added.
