The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogun State Chapter has announced a female veteran journalist and renowned publisher Dr Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo as its deputy governorship candidate.

Penpushing reports that Sowunmi-Kolapo was unveiled on Monday at the party secretariat located along Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta, a ceremony which attracted chieftains of the party including Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, as well as hundreds of the party supporters

The Deputy Governorship Candidate, a seasoned media professional has over two decades of experience spanning journalism, corporate communications and public sector advisory, who equally made history as the first female Group Business Editor at The Punch Newspapers.

Penpushing further reports that her profile showed that she previously served as Special Adviser on Corporate Communications and Strategy to former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The candidate, a business executive, had equally served as National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and was the first woman to hold the position, while journalism record also has it that she contributed significantly to business journalism and mentor to number of young reporters.

Penpushing also reports that Sowunmi-Kolapo, a member of Nigerian Guild of Editors(NGE) speaking at the gathering described her emergence as a call to service, pledging to deploy her experience and expertise toward delivering inclusive governance and grassroots-driven development.

“Our mission is to restore hope to the people of Ogun State. We are committed to building a government that listens to the people, responds to their needs and ensures that no community is left behind’, she added

Penpushing reports that she assured party faithful of her loyalty to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship flagbearer, Oladipupo Adebutu, adding that unity and sustained voter mobilisation would be critical to electoral success.

The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),Ladi Adebutu  in his remarks, described Sowunmi-Kolapo, his running mate as a competent and experienced politician, explaining that her selection followed wide consultations among party stakeholders.

Penpushing further reports that Adebutu boasted that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket represents a credible alternative capable of addressing the socio-economic challenges facing the state, with a focus on job creation, industrial growth, improved infrastructure and policies targeted at citizens’ welfare.

Meanwhile, number of supporters at the ceremony affirmed that the choice of Sowunmi-Kolapo would boost Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) chances, in the forthcoming elections, citing her track record in media, business and public service.
