The local government pensioners Ogun state on Thursday embarked on a protest to the Governor’s office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta to further demand for the payment of their pension arrears and other sundry, as well as flopped attempt y security operatives to frustrate them

Penpushing reports that, the pensioners, were however, subjected to humiliation over their peaceful protest and right of protest, as the security operatives blocked the two entry gates to the Governor’s office preventing them access.

The aggrieved pensioners, however, exhibited wisdom to void efforts of the security operatives to frustrate them, and resolved to carry out the protest in front of the gates, which equally prevented civil servants to gain access to the secretariat where their offices are located.

Penpushing further reports that, Chairman of Local Government Pensioners Association, Chief Sikiru Ayilara while speaking with journalists maintained that the pensioners have utilised all the necessary mechanisms in conveying their grievances to the Governor without any favourable response.

“After having exhausted all efforts without any fruitful results, we resolved to stage this peaceful protest rally today. I must tell you now that the Commandant of the 35th Artillery Brigade, Alamala knows about this our protest, the Commissioner of Police is aware, the Commandant Civil Defence even the DSS knows about it. We have also written all the four Paramount Rulers in the State. All of them are aware of our protest of today’, he said.

Penpushing also reports that, Ayilara emphasised that the pensioners are demanding for ten years outstanding gratuities to be duly paid within 24 months, declaring that, the association reject the payment of N68Billion ten years outstanding gratuities at N500,000,000) quarterly for 34 years.

“Immediate implementation of the provisions of the circular on 33.4% increase in pension issued in 2014 which other neighboring states had long paid. Payment of N30,000 minimum pension to pensioners as against N5,000 minimum pension now being paid in Ogun State’they demanded.

“Resuscitation of the illegally suspended Bureau of Local Government Pensions Committee backed  by Federal and State laws. The committee was established to manage the pension funds of Local Government pensioners in the state”.
