A frontline member of Penpushing platform, Seye Kehinde, a veteran journalist of repute has been conferred with Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award by the Nigerian government, being one of those who used journalistic tools to demand Nigeria’s return to democracy during the dictatorship rule of late General Sanni Abacha

Penpushing reports that President Bola Tinubu made the announcement on Thursday while addressing lawmakers at the House of Representatives chambers in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day.

The renowned journalist is the Publisher of the City People Magazine, was born is Ishara Ogun State, Nigeria and had his Diploma of journalism and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science at Obafemi Awolowo University and also acquire his certificate of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kwara State Polytechnic.

Penpushing further reports that he began working as a journalist there, he was a reporter in Newswatch, holding the position of library assistant in 1986 and also works with  Herald newspapers in 1988, Insider Confidential newsletter as a Senior correspondent in 1989, head in International Desk in 1990, senior writer in Tribune in 1991 and works with the African Concord as a staff writer from 1991 to his retirement in 1992 when president Ibrahim Babangida recreate the African Concord Press.

The recipient was invited to African Guardian as an assistant editor there he served from 1992 to 1994, he also works with the TheNEWS Magazine as Senior Editor and Chief Editor in Tempo Magazine before in 1995, and was also founding team of PM News, thereafter he began setting up City People Magazine

Penpushing also reports that Tinubu similarly conferred national honours on other heroes of democracy, including Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka, late journalist Bagauda Kaltho, and journalist Ayo Obe.

The other recipients of the national honours include Olatunji Dare (CON), Nosa Igiebor (OON), Dare Babarinsa (CON), Matthew Kukah (CON), Shehu Sani (CON), Uba Sani (CON), Femi Falana (CON), Shafideen Amuwo (CON), and Luke Aghanenu (OON).

Penpushing  reports that the list also include Tokunbo Afikuyomi (CON), former information minister Labaran Maku (OON), Tunji Alausa (CON), Nick Dazang (OON), Abdul Oroh (OON), Odia Ofeimun (CON), Dapo OIorunyomi(OON), Felix Morka (CON), Ledum Mitee (CON), Olawale Osun (CON), Amos Akingba (CON), Segun Gbadegesin (CON), Mobolaji Akinyemi (CFR), Kayode Shonoiki (CON), Julius Ihonvbere (CON), Bayo Williams (CON), Abu Ibrahim (CFR), and Ame Ebute (CFR).

 The President in same vein conferred Ajibade with OON award, while Bayo Onanuga presidential spokesman was conferred the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) honour, as well as veteran journalist Sam Amuka, the publisher of Vanguard newspapers, who he described as a legendary journalist and publisher who remains true to his lifetime calling as he marks his 90th birthday June 13, 2025
