A frontline member of Penpushing platform, Bolaji Amusan popularly called, ’Mr Latin’ has bagged United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) award following his nomination for the 2025 Léopold Sédar Senghor Prize for African Cultural Creativity and Impact.

Penpushing reports the award bestowed on Amusan on Thursday was with the approval of the Board of the Toyin Falola International Conference on Africa and the African Diaspora, the College of Humanities and Culture, Osun State University as well as the University of Texas at Austin in collaboration with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The letter earlier sent to the multi-talented Nigerian comedian was equally with the consent of International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD), a multi-donor fund established by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to support sustainable development and poverty reduction in developing countries through the promotion of cultural diversity.

Penpushing further reports that Amusan, Global President of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) was considered for the award, held at Main Campus of Osun State University, Osogbo following his track records of uplifting culture and his creativity

The Léopold Sédar Senghor Prize for African Cultural Creativity and Impact is awarded to an African artist of any medium or form whose works are devoted to harnessing African cultural heritages in creative ways for social consciousness and impact’.

‘This Prize is named after the father of Negritude, the visionary poet, politician and first President of Senegal, Léopold Sédar Senghor, one of the most important intellectuals in African history’, the letter reads.

‘We considered your achievements as a cultural enthusiast and your passion for the development of the Nollywood film industry as noteworthy and worthy of this unique recognition’, it added.

Penpushing also reports that the letter signed by Professor of History and TOFAC 2025 Convener Olukoya Ogen, explained that the annual conference is a unique event that brings together hundreds of scholars from every continent for a celebration of studies of Africa and the African Diaspora, inspired by the ground-breaking scholarly contributions of the honouree, Professor Toyin Falola, the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities of the University of Texas at Austin.
