Penpushing member, Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi to bag African champion award

The founding Director of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center (WARDC), a Non-Governmental Maternal and Reproductive, and frontline member of Penpushing Platform, Dr Abiola Afolabi-Akiyode has been shortlisted for champion award in Africa continent.

Penpushing reports the award is organized by a reputable organization Leading Women of Africa (LWA), a Pan African Group with headquarters in Cape Town South Africa, scheduled to hold on November 23, 2024

The statement from the President of the  organization Madelein Mkunu explained that after meticulous reviewed of entries which attracted 100 nominations from 20 African countries, spanning across four main categories it was established that Afolabi-Akiyode merit the award

Penpushing further reports that the categories include Public Sector, Corporate Sector, Civil Society, and Entrepreneurship, while record has it that out of the 100 nominations, Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, a Nigerian lawyer and civil rights activists scaled the nomination hurdles

‘The independent selection committee, comprised of highly respected female and male leaders from across the continent and the Diaspora, meticulously reviewed the entries. Following rigorous research and deliberation, the adjudicators shortlisted 30 nominees for the Future is Female Awards and 18 nominees for the LWA Men Champions Awards across the four categories’, the statement reads

Penpushing also reports that Akiyode-Afolabi, a two-time chairperson anniversary planning committee of Penpushing Media will join other awardees at the ceremony which will equally feature symposium and exhibition, and rounded off with a gala nite

The statement added that 12 honorary awardees have been selected for special recognition, stating that the annual event is endorsed by the late Dr Kenneth Kaunda who served as the patron of the Leading Women of Africa (LWA)

Penpushing reports that the statement explained that the programme is designed and aim to raise awareness of the pivotal roles female and male leaders play as transformative agents of change, who have been instrumental in unlocking potential of women and acknowledging them as equal partners in sustainable socio-economic development

‘The core objective of the LWA Champions Awards is to shine a light on the contributions of both men and women in empowering women, while recognizing their influential roles in driving socio-economic change across the continent. The awards honor excellence, encourage good governance, and promote a culture of integrity in African societies’, the statement added

‘Leading up to the awards gala, the APG Symposium and Exhibition will be held from 20th to 22nd November 2024. This premier business engagement platform will bring together entrepreneurs, business leaders, and policymakers to explore economic opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA)’.

‘The key objective of the symposium is to facilitate B2B engagements between South African businesses and their African counterparts, with participation from Anglophone, Francophone, and Lusophone communities’, the statement emphasised.

‘Leading Women of Africa (LWA) Group is a Pan-African, women-led social enterprise with a dual mission: facilitating trade and investment opportunities, while championing entrepreneurship and female leadership across Africa. This year’s event promises to be a landmark moment in celebrating African leadership and fostering collaboration for the continent’s growth’, it added.
