A Clergyman with the Royal World Embassy Church, Pastor Rufus Olatunji, in now in trouble water, as an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Tuesday ordered he should be remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping and impregnating a 14-year-old member.
Penpushing reports that, the 45 year old cleric is facing a two-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse and procuring an abortion, a crime said to have being committed in August 2021, at the church located in Ipaja area of the state.
The prosecutor, Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the defendant allegedly had sexual intercourse with the girl in the church’s store, which resulted in the pregnancy, adding that the girl’s parents reported the case to the police which led to his arrest.
Penpushing further reports that, the prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 137 and 145(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, while the court on hearing of the case refused the defendant plea.
The Chief Magistrate, F.M. Kayode, ordered that the pastor be remanded at Ikoyi Correctional Centre, and then adjourned the case to March 8 for mention.
