The parents and Student Union Government of Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Mando, Kaduna State, where the students were abducted 55 days ago by Boko Haram on Tuesday took a protest to the National Assembly in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory(FCT),
Penpushing reports that, the worried parents accompanied by activists Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju were seen marching from the Unity Fountain to the National Assembly carrying placards with different inscriptions like “#FreeAfaka29”, “Bring back our students”, “Education is our right” and “Secure our institutions.”
The protesters while chanting “Education is our right! Safety is our right! Freedom is our right!, Free Afaka 29!” and songs of solidarity’, also blocked the entrance of the legislative complex demanding action by the federal government to secure the release of the students.
Penpushing further reports that, the parents alleged Nigerian government of negligence over the faith of the abducted students, who have been held in captive for fifty-five days by the Boko Haram
The protest was coming over a month after gunmen raided the college and kidnapped 39 students, after sporadic gunshots, while some days after ten of the abducted students were released in two batches of five while 29 are still held in captivity.
Penpushing also that, Governor Nasir El-Rufai on his part, has claimed that the school is a federal institution and it cannot do anything about it, adding that his administration was not ready to negotiate with bandits to pay ransom
