Oyo State Governor’s wife meets wives of council chairmen on grassroot empowerment for womenfolk

The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde on Wednesday had  a close door meeting with wives of the 33 Local Government chairmen’s across the state and their vice to deliberate on issues affecting women and children in the state.

Penpushing reports that the meeting, which was held at Oyo State government house, Agodi, Ibadan lasted for several as journalists were not allowed to cover its proceedings, but Makinde while briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to identify challenges facing women and children at the grassroot, and ways to solved them.

The Governor’s wife said that another  meeting would be coming up in two weeks time to finetune and know the next line of action, while noting that resources available are limited, but assured that there are some things women and children across the state can benefit even with the limited resources.

“We called this meeting to know challenges women and children are facing in their domains and how we can work together to transform their lives.”

Penpushing further reports that, she however urged the wives of councils chairmen to work together in unity so as to know the needs  at the grass route, and see how to help them, adding that not just to give them fish but to also teach them how to fish for them to have means of livelihood.”

The wife of Egbeda Local Government Chairman, Mrs Monsurat Sanda while speaking on behalf of her colleagues  said that they have been waiting so long for the interaction so as to let the first lady know challenges women and children are facing in their various local governments.

Penpushing also reports that  Sanda however pledged  their support towards implementation of the Governor’s wife good intentions for the betterment of women and children in the state.
