The Oyo State Governor’s wife, Engr. Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde has urged children to shun every act of indiscipline and be upright in their studies, as she hosted the 2021 Children’s Day celebration and International Day of the African Child at her Office, Government House Road, Ibadan.

Penpushing reports that over 150 secondary schools students drawn from all parts of the state, representing no fewer than 10 schools attended the party, while  dignitaries at the occasion include the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, the Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Agboola, the Director-General Due Process, Ms. Tara Adefowope among others.

The Wife of the Governor while speaking pointed out that, children are the leaders of tomorrow, therefore Oyo State Government is investing so much in their future, stating  that the State Government has ensured public education is made free within the state and textbooks distributed free to children in the State.

Penpushing further reports that, she stressed that the present administration has placed a high priority on human capital development with children as a major focus and it’s not leaving any stone unturned in investing huge resources in education and the overall welfare of the children in the State.

“For instance, the child rights act law has been domesticated in Oyo State and this right is already being implemented to ensure that our children have access to quality and free education, social amenities, and justice wherever their right is violated” she mentioned.

Penpushing also reports that,Makinde said the policy of free and quality education put in place for all school children has been yielding a positive result and out-of-school children in the State have been reduced by 50%.

The first ;lady, therefore, urged the children to grab the opportunity at hand and ensure they study hard to meet up with their dreams and have better tomorrow, stressing that education is essential.

“I urge you, children, not to play with the opportunity you have to have a better tomorrow because education is essential and should be your priority”, she said.

The Governor’s wife also used the occasion to remind parents and teachers to continually be good examples for the children, emphasizing that they are mentors, whom the children look up to.

“They see you as role models because you have great influences on them both at home and school. Therefore, let us nurture the children in the right way to become what they are destined to be, There is a saying that, children are the leaders of tomorrow, a society that neglects the children is trading off the future of his society,” she said.

Penpushing reports that the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women affairs and social inclusion, Mrs. Christiana Abioye in her remarks said the two days being celebrated are significant to the wife of the Governor.
