The former Ogun State Governor and veteran journalist, Chief Olusegun Osoba on Monday commissioned the N13million new secretariat of the League of Veteran Journalists Oyo State Chapter, situated within the premises of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Penpushing reports that Osoba was accompanied to the ceremony by former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Prince Segun Adesegun and Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, founder Penpushing Media where hundreds of veterans and other dignitaries were also in attendance.

The former Governor in his speech disclosed that journalism made him what he is today, recalling that his practice in Ibadan recorded story of success in his journalism career, and would always give back to the profession.

Penpushing further reports that Osoba at the colourful ceremony donated the sum of N5million to the league, stressing that his attending the event was coming back home, having headed Daily Sketch Newspapers which became a pride of journalism during his tenure.

The veteran journalist used the occasion to appreciate the late former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Bola Ige, who he said as Governor, gave all necessary support to Daily Sketch Newspapers, in making it relevant globally in the media industry.

Penpushing also reports that the Chairman of the League of Veteran Journalists, Banji Ogundele in his welcome speech narrated the history of the commissioned edifice, explaining that committees were set up to raise funds.

The Chairman added that the thought of having more befitting secretariat came to mind as the former office was considered as no more habitable, stating that hence, the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) was approached to provide a portion of land within the secretariat.

Penpushing reports that he explained that the Executives of the Union, in no time approved the use of the available land, which further prompt the league to embark on fundraising which eventually paved way for support from number of benefactors

‘To turn a dilapidated and rodents-invested building to what it is today. It is a result of relying on reason with confidence to banish fear of failure. The road was rough and tough, but the race is always for those who are patient and consistent. Those who conquer fear’, he emphasised

The Chairman disclosed the benefactors as include: Chief Olusegun Osoba, Oba (Dr) Muritala Akande, Chief Taiwo Akande, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Deacon Owolabi Oladejo, Prof Adeolu Akande and Late Rauf Ajagbe

Penpushing further reports that Ogundele emphasized that the project is a legacy to be left behind for younger generation in the profession, and urged them to maintain it for their own use, as well as those coming behind them.

Meanwhile, notable veterans and other dignitaries at the event include: Chief Bamiji Ojo, Deacon Owolabi Oladejo, Sade Haastrup, Bisi Yomi-Layinka,, Kola Animashaun, Lekan Alabi, Victor Oluwadamilare, Folu Olamiti and Chief Niyi Akintola who was the chairman of the occasion among others
