The former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos State Chapter, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been elected the new National President of the union.
Penpushing reports that delegates from four Southwest states of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti participated in the election held at the union’s zonal secretariat in Osogbo on Saturday where Oluomo emerged as the sole candidate.
The election of Oluomo comes many months after he was dramatically stripped of his chairmanship of the Lagos chapter of the union, and took place during the union’s quadrennial delegate conference, said to be monitored and observed by the Acting National President of the union, Aliyu Issa-Ore.
Penpushing further reports that after Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, took over as the chairperson of the state’s chapter, became his successor many of Oluomo’s old associates, including Ganiyu Oyedepo, popularly known as Kok Zaria, have ditched him.
The controversial Oluomo was equally mock on social media by number of Nigerians having openly declared support for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress during the 2023 general elections.
Penpushing also reports that the Acting President speaks who the Head of Finance, Adedamola Salam, represented at the union’s National Headquarters in Abuja, in reaction said union’s constitution stipulates that the zone permitted to fill the national president’s position would elect its preferred candidate and present them to the national body.
The Acting President added that since it is the turn of the South-West zone to produce the National President, it has fully complied with the constitution in electing Oluomo as President, while at the conference Tajudeen Agbede who was the immediate predecessor of Olumo in the Lagos state chapter was elected as Vice President for the South-West zone, while Akeem Adeosun was elected as trustee from the zone.
Penpushing reports that Oluomo in his acceptance shortly after taking the oath of office called for peace and pledged to work towards unity among members, adding that he has forgiven everyone who has offended him
“I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well. This is our union, and we must be committed to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood’, he said
