The Olowu-elect of Owu Kingdom of Egbaland, Prof Saka Matemilola was on Monday presented to the Owu indigenes and kingmakers to commence his journey into the throne of his forefathers.
Penpushing reports that, the Olowu-designate was received by Balogun Owu and former Nigeria’s President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at his Ita-Eko private residence alongside notable chiefs of the ancient town located in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State
The former President, known to appreciate  tradition and culture took time to prostrate to welcome the incoming traditional ruler, in the full glare of the public, just as the indigenes and residents of the community trooped to the home of Obasanjo in joyous mood to be part of history in welcoming the monarch.
Penpushing further reports that, the Olowu-designate was later led to the palace of Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo to pay courtesy visit, and thereafter taken to Oke-Ago Owu to commence his seclusion as part of process for his coronation, a date expected to be announced by the Ogun State Government.
The notable Egba indigenes who witnessed the ceremony include Oba Olufemi Ogunleye Towulade of Akinale, a renowned veteran journalist,  Chief Niyi Adegbenro, Chief Bode Mustapha(Osi of Egbaland), Chief Doja Adewolu; Chief Ogooluwa Bankole; Chief Johnson Olu-Fatoki , Chief Benjamin Akinkunmi Akande(Aare Ago of Owu Kingdom and  Chief Olaniyi Abolaji among others

Penpushing also reports that Obasanjo in his remarks assured the new traditional ruler of the cooperation of the sons and daughters of Owu in ensuring a peaceful and remarkable reign.

The Balogun  of Owu thanked the Ogun State government for approving the selection of  Matemilola as the successor of the late Oba Adegboyega Dosumu, who joined his ancestors last December, and equally thanked the kingmakers for  completing their assignments in no distance time in filling the vacant seat of the Owu stool.

“In our history, this is the first time a new king will be filling a vacant seat within a short period. We have to preserve our culture. Culture is the totality of our existence, and we must not allow it to go into extinction. We (kingmakers) did what we are supposed to do. The state government approved his appointment’,he stated.

“I want to assure you (Matemilola) of my unalloyed support and the support of the entire sons and daughters of Owu kingdom in your journey as the new Olowu of Owu Kingdom”, Obasanjo added.

Penpushing reports that the former president urged chiefs and other Owu indigenes as well as residents not to disturb the new traditional ruler during his seclusion period.

The Osi Owu and notable son of the town Chief Niyi Adegbenro while speaking at the ceremony expressed joy in the emergence and presentation of Matemilola as the next of Owu Kingdom, expressing optimism that his reign will further uplift the community to greater height.
