The Ogun State workers on Monday declared an indefinite strike, accusing the government of non-challance towards their welfare and the retirees, and had refused to pay salary deductions for 21 months.
Penpushing reports that, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade, Emmanuel Bankole led other leaders of the organized labour to address the workers at the arcade ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta to declare the strike
The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Akeem Lasisi; and the Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC), Isa Olude in collaboration with Bankole said the strike takes effect from midnight Tuesday.
Penpushing further reports that, the leaders of the workers declared that the strike would affect ministries, agencies, hospitals, public schools, other government agencies and parastatals, warning that any workers who disobey the strike order would be treated like traitor.
The organized labour pointed out that, their plight is pathetic, claiming that Governor Dapo Abiodun had failed to yield to the labour’s several calls for negotiation, adding that, it was a breach of the State Pension Reform Law, 2006 (amended 2013) in the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme.
Penpushing also reports that, Bankole said the indefinite strike would allow the government have a rethink and call for a dialogue, stressing that their grievances were contained in a letter dated June 21 and addressed to the Governor.
