An officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Olasupo Popoola has been kidnapped by gunmen at Fidiwo axis on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway while on official duty with his colleagues

Penpushing reports that the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the incident said the official was abducted on Sunday at about 6.30am, adding that this happened in the course of the early morning routine patrol

The agency spokesman said a distress call was received about a truck which had broken down on the service lane, narrowing the traffic corridor and needed to be towed off the road in order not to affect traffic flow as the day breaks.

‘The patrol team, which was made up of Superintendent Popoola Azeez Olasupo and Superintendent Olawunmi Olukoga, quickly moved towards the axis at Fidiwo, inbound Ibadan, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, to effect the rescue process’, he stated

Penpushing further reports that Akinbiyi explained that while the officials were on their way back, after they have  successfully towed the truck off the road to Fidiwo Police Station, at Edumare Ministry, Isara axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, some kidnappers appeared from the bush and started shooting sporadically towards them.

The Public Relations Officer said in the process, the gunmen  stopped the motorcycle the officials were on patrol with, escaped to the other side of the expressway for safety, adding that unfortunately, the kidnappers pursued them into the bush and caught up with Popoola while his colleague, Olawunmi Olukoga escaped.

Penpushing also reports that Akinbiyi said hours after the kidnappers linkedup with his father-in-law, of Popoola ,who now called the Deputy Area Commander of the  agency, Commander Adesegun Adesanya, to the effect that his son-in-law had been kidnapped.

The agency said as at the time of filing this report, Akinbiyi said security operatives which include Department of Security Services, Police, Military and Amotekun Corps had been contacted for assistance in securing release of the victim unhurt.

Penpushing reports that the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi when contacted, confirmed the incident adding that the Anti-Kidnapping team was already after the kidnappers.
