The Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly Rt Hon Kunle Olumo has been impeached by his colleagues following five points allegations which include financial misappropriation, inciting members against themselves, high-handedness, lack of focus and transparency as well as arrogance and poor leadership.

Penpushing reports that removal of Olumo was said to have been carried out by 18 out of 26 members in the chambers while Oluomo was said not to be around as at the time of the impeachment, and was subsequently replaced.

The lawmakers who signed the impeachment of Oluomo immediately pronounced Hon Oludaisi Elemide from Odeda constituency in Odeda local government area of the state, who had earlier contested the position with him (Oluomo) but lost out, as the new speaker

Penpushing further reports that the Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu led his men to the assembly complex to monitor events and prevent any violence following the sudden change of leadership of the assembly.

The sacked speaker and newly pronounced speaker are both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), before what look like a palace coup against the former, while the plenary was being presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon (Mrs) Bolanle Ajayi from Yewa South State Constituency.

Penpushing also reports that during the impeachment process Hon Adegoke Adeyanju, from Yewa North 1,constituency carried the mace and subsequently moved the motion for Oluomo’s removal which was seconded by Hon Ademola Adeniran from Sagamu ll state constituency.

The Clerk of the House Deji Adeyemo and his Deputy, Mrs Funmilayo Adeyemi were caught unaware of the shocking development as they looked helpless as the impeachment exercise unfolded at the plenary, while as at the time of filing this report the impeached speaker could not be reach for comments

Penpushing reports that the new speaker in an interview with journalists at the assembly complex explained that it was necessary to let the world know that there is a change in the leadership of the assembly

The assembly new boss emphasized that 18 members signed for him to be the speaker, stressing that he is now in charge and custody of all the authority of the Ogun State House of Assembly, adding that his leadership will support the Governor in providing good governance

‘We are law abiding legislators. We want the world to know that there is now a change in leadership. 18 members signed for me to be the speaker. People should remain calm. We are in custody of all the authority of the house. We are saying that the new leadership will support the governor. The governor does not know anything about this impeachment. This is our decision as legislators and new leadership has emerged’, Elemide declared
