Ogun state information commissioner tasks journalists on effective coverage of events

The Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile has pointed out that there is need for proper punctuation and camera handling to achieve a positive communication outcomes and effective coverage of activities, to convey intended information across to the people

Penpushing reports that  Odusile made this known, while speaking at the opening of a day training organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel, at TechHub, Kobape Road, Abeokuta, on the theme; ‘Punctuation for Effective Communication and Camera Handling Techniques for Better Shots’

The former President Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) stated that journalists should checkmate ambiguity in their information and make themselves clear and concise without losing the message meant for the target audience.

The Commissioner noted that inappropriate use of punctuation marks and bad camera shots could lead to misinformation, urging information managers to keep abreast of global trends in the dissemination of information for improved service delivery

Penpushing also reports that, he charged the chapel to ensure continuity of the lofty idea to build the capacity of their members, urging the participants to avail the opportunity of the training, in order to be more efficient in propagating the present administration’s policies and programmes

The Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun, in her contribution  emphasised the importance of training and retraining of the workforce in ensuring better performance, noting that capacity building of information officers would enable them perform effectively, both at the service and beyond.

Penpushing reports that, the Head of Service represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Matters, Mr. Dahunsi Ogunleye, said it is imperative for journalists to cultivate reading habit, describing it as a way to widen their horizon in disseminating accurate information to the general public

The number one civil servant in the state commended the effort of the Chapel, for identifying training areas that would benefit its members to meet up with the best global practice of developmental journalism.

Penpushing further reports that, earlier in his address, the Chairman, Information Chapel, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju said the theme for the training was chosen to aid the work output of officers, particularly in writing, adding that the executive would not relent in updating the knowledge of officers on new trend to enhance their productivity.

The chapel boss lauded the support of the State government, Head of Service and management of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, and Directors from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Penpushing also reports that, two of the participants, Tolulope Ogunjimi and Temitope Akinbola,in their responses  said the training was an opportunity to garner more knowledge to perform better in their chosen career.
