The Ogun State House of Assembly has suspended the former Deputy Speaker, Hon Dare Kadiri, and his counterpart from Remo North,Hon Solomon Osho for breaching the assembly’s power and privilege, during a plenary presided over by the Speaker.
Penpushing reports that the suspension order which is until further notice was reached during the plenary section, while the adoption of the resolution was approved by the lawmakers, declaring that the duo have been found to have severally and contentiously breached the Rights and Privileges of the Ogun State House of Assembly and its leadership
The Speaker, Rt Hon Kunle Oluomo who announced the suspension on Tuesday said order 6, Rule 19 (2) says that whereof a matter of privilege arises, it shall be taken into consideration immediately, adding that he received a resolution by appropriate number of members of the house raising issue of Privileges
“Order 6, Rule 19 (2) says that whereof a matter of privilege arises, it shall be taken into consideration immediately; in the note of that, I want to say that I received a resolution by appropriate number of members of this house raising issue of Privileges and it read thus”, Resolution 131/ OG/ 2022- suspension of some honourable members for the breach of the provision of the Legislative Houses (Power and Privileges) Act, 2017’, he stated.
“Having been found to have severally and contentiously breached the Rights and Privileges of the Ogun State House of Assembly and its Leadership, through violation of the provisions of Section 17 of Legislative Houses (Power and Privileges) Act, 2017’, Oluomo added.
“The following Honourable member, Hon. Oluwadamilare Kadiri (Ijebu North II State Constituency) and Solomon Osho (Remo North Constituency) are hereby suspended from the House and its activities forthwith until further notice in line with the provisions of Sections 14 and 15 of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges ) Act, 2017”, he emphaised
Penpushing also reports that, it is recalled that, the Speaker and the suspended Deputy Speaker have been at loggerhead for awhile, following petition written by Kadiri to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) over the alleged financial irregularities in the House.
The Speaker, was thereafter arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), and was later released on bail, describing Kadiri’s petition as hyperbolic, while he(Speaker) is currently standing trial over alleged financial misappropriation running into over N2.5 billion public funds.
