Ogun state government releases N500million for pensioners’ gratuity

The Ogun State Government has released the sum of N500million for the payment of gratuity for the remaining Pensioners from the backlog of the first quarter of the year 2022 for both State and Local Government Pensioners.

Penpushing reports that, Governor Dapo Abiodun who released the sum explained that it was in fulfillment of his promise to cater for the senior citizens who served the State diligently adding that  it is important to see to their welfare and wellbeing.

The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pensions, Mr. Olukunle Sodeinde made the disclosure in his office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, stating  that the present administration would continue to honour and respect the senior citizens.

Penpushing further reports that, he appreciated the Governor for keeping to his promise that N500million would be released every quarter of the year, urging the pensioners that are yet to get theirs to be patient with this present administration.

The statement added that, some of the pensioners who spoke praised the Governor for paying their pensions and for his support towards them, appealing to him to increase their gratuity as the economy improves.

Penpushing also reports that, in a related development Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Quudus Yusuff said the present administration in Ogun State is working hard to discourage brain drain in the health sector.

The Permanent Secretary explained that, to this end, the government has continued to prioritise the health and wellbeing of its citizenry, hence, adding that it has not relent in funding hospitals across the State as well as, several health projects had been commissioned and many more are in the pipeline.

Penpushing reports that, Yusuff who made this known during his familiarisation visit to some health facilities in Ijebu Ode  zone revealed that government would continue to motivate medical practitioners and other health officers to make migration unattractive.

“Though no amount paid to healthcare practitioners would match the hazard they are exposed to, but the remuneration of health workers in our State is equal with our counterparts working in Federal Government facilities’, he said.

‘’Over a thousand approvals for recruitment had been received and implemented since the inception of this administration for the post of consultants, medical officers, nurses, pharmacists, scientific officers, health attendants, as well as interns, among others”, he added.

Penpushing further reports that Yusuff said the introduction of the Health Insurance Scheme to the downtrodden is another achievement of the government in health care financing, geared towards making health care accessible and affordable for indigents.

The Permanent Secretary advised officers that would want to travel for greener pastures, to follow the Civil Service Rules before quitting, while in his response  the Chief Medical Director, State Hospital Ijebu-Ode, Dr. Oluseye Adetola appreciated the government for working assiduously to provide quality health services to the people.
