The Ogun State Government has ordered stoppage of the Paddy-Arikawe road construction at Government Reservation Area(GRA) in Sagamu town Sagamu Local Government area of the state following shoddy work by Slavabogu Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the reconstruction of the road.

Penpushing reports that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade made this known in a statement explaining that this followed a report from the resident engineer overseeing the project adding that report revealed that the contractor had begun drainage construction using singly reinforced steel instead of the doubly reinforced steel stipulated in the contract

The statement said government has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on substandard road construction, warning that any contractor who fails to adhere strictly to approved specifications risks immediate suspension or termination of their contract.

Penpushing further reports that the stop-work order issued by the Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure on Monday, December 15, 2025 emphasised that the decision underscores its commitment to quality, safety, and durability in all infrastructure projects across the state.

The statement stressed that the 3.39-kilometre Paddy–Arikawe Road project, being executed by the Ogun State Government, had previously attracted a stop-work order during Phase One,adding that phase, a 260-metre constituency project facilitated by the senator representing Ogun East, Senator Gbenga Daniel, was halted after the contractor failed to comply with prescribed construction standards.

Penpushing also reports that the statement said the state government disclosed that information obtained on the original proposal by the Ogun East senator indicated that it would have taken the Federal Government between six and seven years to complete the remaining sections of the road, as phases two, three, and four were only proposals.

The Special Adviser explained that to alleviate the hardship faced by residents of the area, the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration consequently awarded and commenced work on the remaining sections of the road.

Penpushing reports that Akinmade stated that the contractor was immediately served an official stop-work order and directed to demolish all affected concrete bases, remove the wrongly installed reinforcement steel—since the drainage walls had not yet been cast—and reconstruct the work using doubly reinforced steel and grade 30 concrete, in line with contract specifications.

“The Dapo Abiodun administration is fully committed to the delivery of quality road infrastructure that will stand the test of time. The letter issued to the contractor by the Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure was informed by serious safety concerns. The ministry observed clear non-compliance with the reinforcement detailing for the drainage works, which falls short of the specifications contained in the contract documents”, Akinmade wrote.

“In view of this development, the Ogun State Government hereby warns all contractors handling state projects to adhere strictly to approved specifications. There will be no tolerance for shoddy work that could endanger lives or compromise the safety of the people of Ogun State”, he added

Penpushing further reports that the statement stated that the government reaffirmed that quality assurance and strict supervision would continue to guide all ongoing and future infrastructure projects across the state.
