Ogun state government affirms recognition of Alternate Medicine

The Ogun State Government has said that plans are on to review the laws guiding the Alternate Medicine practice in the state for enhanced performance to meet people’s demand especially at the grassroots level to access qualitative and affordable healthcare services at their doorsteps.

Penpushing reports that Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this during a strategic working meeting with the State Alternate Medicine practitioners at the June 12, Cultural Center, Abeokuta, adding that the goal of his administration is to promote the sub-sector to the level where the state would be the first to be reckoned with in terms of Alternate medicine.

”I am assuring you that our administration will do everything possible to sustain the practices of Alternate Medicine in Ogun State, to continue showing appreciation to our people, especially the traditionalist’, he stated.

‘And that is why we are going to make an open declaration on the celebration of Isese Day as a public holiday which will come up August 20 of every year. I will saddle all relevant bodies, including the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice to review the necessary part of the laws that are guiding the practice”,Abiodun added.

Penpushing further reports that the Chairman, Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye  in his remarks appreciated the Governor for approving August 20 as a public holiday set aside for all traditionalists to celebrate their practice and for establishing the Board, giving it necessary support to achieve its set objective.

The board chairman commended the civilised way and manner practitioners have been coordinating their affairs since the creation of the Board, and in his own contributions the Chairman, Nigeria Association of Traditional Medicine, Chief Samson Soyoye said the entire traditionalists were very delighted with the Governor for declaring August 20 to celebrate their cultural heritage, adding that the Governor had written his name in gold as a traditionalist, and they would forever be grateful to him.

Penpushing also reports that, the National President, Mission Birth Attendants, Mrs. Elizabeth Quadri, and the National President, Ewedayepo Association of Traditional Medical Practises, Chief Olugbemi Adesina, while speaking with journalists commended the Governor,

The duo who spoke separately  with journalists as the event pointed out that  his pronouncement by the Governor had brought blessing to the state, stressing that  it has gone a long way at straighten the unity among the people.
