The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta has explained that it has commenced its own investigation into the midnight raid of the facility by the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) following arrest of about 93 suspected internet fraudsters.

Penpushing reports that Managing Director of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Vitalis Ortese, made this known in a statement while reacting to the development which occurred on Sunday at about 2am

The management claimed that over 50 armed men claiming to be Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) operatives stormed the library premises in “gestapo-like and did not produce any warrant or inform the police officers stationed at the facility.

Penpushing further reports that the management, vowed to take the matter up with the highest authorities, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), police, and the State Security Service.

The management while condemning the raid said officers of the anti- corruption agency, led by an individual identified as “Olapade,” reportedly fired gunshots, threatened to kill people, and caused widespread panic.

Penpushing also reports the management giving details of how the raid happened said the Olopade led operatives reportedly fired gunshots, threatened to kill people, and caused widespread panic.

The statement added that the chaos caused serious injuries among the event attendees trying to escape the shooting, emphasizing that residents on the premises which include hotel were left terrified.

Penpushing reports that the management stated that the police officers stationed at the facility gates and additional personnel from the Kemta Police Station, deployed at the request of event organizers and management, claimed they were not informed of the agency planned operation.

“When the armed men were accosted by OOPL security and assisting police officers, they simply retorted, “We are doing our job.” Management wishes to state that this action by the EFCC is a clear case of invasion of private property, infringement of OOPL rights as corporate citizens, and indeed a stark and blatant violation of the rights of the people who gathered for the event,” the statement read.

Penpushing further reports that on enquiry ‘Olapade, was said to have said that the operatives were acting on an intelligence tip about a private event in the amusement facility of the complex.

The management, however, in the statement has disputed the circumstances surrounding the raid, pointing out that it was a private event that had been publicly advertised for days.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) it is recalled in an X post on its official page, explained that operatives from its Lagos zonal directorate 2 , apprehended 93 suspected internet fraudsters in Ogun state.

Penpushing further reports that agency said the suspects were arrested on Sunday, August 10,2025, in a sting operation in Abeokuta, following credible intelligence about their suspected involvement in internet crimes.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) explained that upon arrest of the suspects, 18 vehicles and mobile devices were recovered from the suspects, adding that they will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
