Motorists and passengers in various parts of Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, have lamented the high cost of fuel and transport fare following the battered economy situation Nigeria, which has become regular feature.
Penpushing reports that in an exclusive investigation and interview conducted number of those who spoke said the current situation is worrisome to citizens, and blamed government over non-challance towards their plights.
The random interview on Monday further confirmed the hardship being face, as affirmed by a commercial driver at June 12 motor park in Panseke area of the town, simply identified as Musibau Adebayo who said the high cost of fuel is biting hard.
Penpushing also reports that Adebayo added that even passengers are not happy over the ugly development following the regular increase of transport fare, explaining that it is disturbing that fuel of N7,000 is being bought at N650 per litre.
The driver added that N7,00 fuel bought in the vehicle cannot even ply Abeokuta -Sagamu, just as he equally pointed out that in similar development many Nigerians now take water more than food, all because of the bad economy, and pleaded with the Nigerian government to rise up against the challenges
Penpushing further reports that a passenger who refused to disclosed his identity for security reason, in his own reaction pointed out that to travel from one town or place to another has now become an herculean task
The driver of Abeokuta-Oshodi route who gave his identity as Sina, while reacting recalled that before now they buy fuel as rate of N155 per litre, adding that as at now reverse is the case, stating that they used to buy fuel of N18,000 to fill vehicles tank, but now cost N30,000
Penpushing also reports that the transporter noted that even spare parts for vehicles now cost more that what it used to be, stressing that to buy vehicles now, one has to have second thought because of the fluctuating exchange rate
The transporter lamented that even, to feed his nuclear family now, is difficult, adding that one just works like a jackal and get no positive result, noting that the harsh situation of the economy has turned many people as lazy
Penpushing reports that during an interview with the treasurer of June 12 motor park at Panseke, Olatunji Fadipe, said the transport workers understand the current situation in the country, regretting that the vehicle they used to buy at 1.2million now cost to N 4.5million.
The transporter, however, called on the government to intervene by reducing petrol price to N200 per litter, as well as look at how to reduce cost of food stuffs’, expressing optimism that if these are done the hardship will surely reduce.
