Nigerian Government, United Nations organise webinar for journalists on food systems

The Nigerian Government  in collaboration with the United Nations system in Nigeria will host a webinar for journalists on the Nigeria National Food Systems Dialogue (FSSD) 2021, scheduled to hold Tuesday, February 9,2021.

Penpushing reports that, the aim of the webinar is to acquaint journalists with the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) and to create a common understanding of “food systems” in the context of Nigeria amongst media partners.

The invite by the United Nations Information Centre(UNIC) to Penpushing media explained further that, this webinar for journalists also seeks to lay the foundation for series of dialogues across the country to chart pathways towards ensuring resilient, inclusive and sustainable food systems in Nigeria by 2030.

Penpushing further reports that, expected at the webinar include: National Convenor, Mrs Olusola  Idowu (Permanent Secretary, Budget and National Planning),UN Resident/ Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr Edward Kallon ,Representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and Country Representatives of FAO, UNICEF, WHO, UNDP, IFAD and WFP

The webinar scheduled to start 10am will be through Zoom, while participants can join the meeting in loging on Join Zoom Meeting: https://zoom.us/j/4174285734?pwd=UWEwWjZmd3VTMlB2dWNhcDRPbHduUT09  ,while the meeting ID is 417 428 5734, and Passcode: 699969

Penpushing also reports that, the statement said, there is more than enough food in the world to feed the world’s population of 7.8 billion people, noting that as at today, more than 820 million people are hungry, the food systems are failing, and the coronavirus pandemic is making things worse.

The Secretary General of the world body in his latest policy brief on food security said, it is increasingly clear that we must act now to address the impending global food emergency and avoid the worst impacts of the pandemic.

The Deputy Secretary-General and Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Food Systems Summit, Amina Mohammed, invited all member states to engage in the preparation of the summit through encouraging action-oriented and inclusive dialogues.

Penpushing reports that, Mohammed added that to ensure inclusive and participatory dialogues across the country, the Nigeria National Food System Dialogues would engage all stakeholders, especially the media.
