The Nigerian Government is seeking to withdraw the charge of illegal possession of firearms filed against the suspended and former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, who has been in detention since his arrest.
Penpushing reports that on Tuesday the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abubakar Mohammed, made the oral application of withdrawal at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, explaining that this was based on the result of more investigations conducted by the government.

Penpushing further reports that it is recalled that Emefiele was on July 25, 2023 arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on illegal possession of firearms and live ammunition, but was later granted bail of N20 million, ordering to be detained at the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS)
The State Security Services (SSS), in violation of the court order rearrested the embattled Emefiele immediately he stepped out of the courtroom, after the security operatives engaged the officials of Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) in in fisticuffs over his custody.
