The Nigerian Army Chief, General Ibrahim Attahiru, on Friday died in a plane crash alongside some of his aides while on an official trip to Kaduna, but cause of the crash was still sketchy as at the time of filing this report

Penpushing reports that, the sad incident was reported to have being confirmed by the Airforce spokesman. Edward Gabkwet, who as at the time of filing this report promised to give more details soon

“An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon,”

Penpushing further reports that, the deceased was recently appointment Army Chief by President Muhammadu Buhari, and until his appointment in January, he was the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.

The late aemy boss qith service number 8406 was a member of Regular Course 35 of the Nigerian Defence Academy, and at a time of his military career was the Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole until he was sacked in 2017 for alleged incompetence.

Penpushing also reports that, under Attahiru watch, suicide bombings and attacks on military formations were on the rise, and barely a month after he assumed office, Boko Haram insurgents attacked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The crash comes three months after a Nigerian air force passenger plane crashed outside Abuja airport following alleged engine failure, killing all seven people on board, while Attahiru’s death occurred barely 24 hours after notorious leader of Boko Haram was reported dead.

Penpushing reports that, Nigeria’s military has been battling Boko Haram since 2009, the battle which has so far claimed over 40,000 lives and  over two million people displaced, as at the time of filing this report.

Details coming soon…
