President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), following the Monday resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad, on health grounds, as contained in his letter
Penpushing reports that the ceremony was attended by Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo , Justices of the Supreme Court, and other senior Nigeria government officials, as record has it that Ariwoola was the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court
The new Chief Justice of Nigeria who hails from Iseyin in Oyo State was born on August 22, 1958, was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2011, and before his elevation to the Court of Appeal bench in 2011, he served as a judge of the High Court of Oyo State, a position he was appointed to in 1992 from private legal practice.
Penpushing further reports that, the jurist started his education in Iseyin, his hometown at the Local Authority Demonstration School, Oluwole in Iseyin Local government of Oyo State between 1959 and 1967.
The Chief Justice also attended Muslim Modern School in the town between 1968 and 1969 before proceeding to Ansar-Ud-Deen High School, Saki in Oyo North of Oyo State, and later studied law at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile Ife, Osun State
Penpushing reports that, Ariwoola bagged his bachelor of laws degree with honours in July 1980 from the university and was called to the Nigeria bar before he got enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria as a Solicitor and Advocate.
Meanwhile, the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) before his elevation to the Supreme Court, served as Justice of the Court of Appeal in Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos Divisions, and will be retire from the service in 2028.
