Ash Montana Deck of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), in collaboration with Treasured Points of Light, on Tuesday, organised a Back-to-School programme for children at Elekuro Village Field, Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State.

Penpushing reports that the body in a bid to promote literacy and ensure access to quality education, equipped a total number of 386 pupils with basic learning materials from Elekuro and neighbouring villages

The Chairman of Treasured Points of Light, Mrs. Oluwadamilola Onebamhoin at the programme, themed “Join Hands, Raise Hope,” was designed to encourage children to take their education seriously

Penpushing further reports that she, described her foundation as a child-focused and education-based Non-Governmental Organisation(NGO), explaining that the organisation is non-political,

The Chairman of Treasured Points of Light added that the vision vision is to provide children with the opportunities she lacked during her own childhood, in collaboration with individuals who can give these children a reason to go back to school.

Penpushing also reports that he stressed the importance of equipping children with school materials such as bags, lunch boxes, water bottles, sandals, socks, math sets, crayons, and other essentials.

The chairman hailed the Nigerian Government’s newly introduced educational curriculum, describing it as a “fantastic idea” that allows children to concentrate on core learning areas rather than being overburdened with irrelevant subjects.

Penpushing reports that the immediate Past Area Mate of National Association of Seadogs(NAS), Mr. Yemi Akintunde, in his remarks educated the children on the history and role of the association founded in 1952 by Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka and five others.

The immediate Past Area Mate of National Association of Seadogs(NAS), however, warned against substance abuse, describing it as the root of terrorism and criminality.

“As far as we are concerned, there are future governors, presidents, and ministers among you. But because of one thing or the other, many children are denied the opportunity to go to school. Of course, that kills a dream,” he said.

Penpushing further reports that Akintunde, who doubles as a veteran journalist urged parents and guardians as well as children to put the donated items to proper use.

The Cap’n of Ash Montana Deck, Mr. Ganiyu Omitogun, said the programme coincided with the celebration of International Literacy Day,assuring that the association is committed to defending human dignity by standing for the weak, the poor, and the uninformed.

Penpushing also reports that the event had in attendance Baale of Elekuro, Chief Olusegun Oladeinde, former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Team Coordinator, Mrs. Taylor Samuel among other stakeholders.
