The former Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu, has been honoured with award of meritorious service by the Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS)
Penpushing reports that Olomu was honoured alongside Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abd’Femi, former Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso; Alhaji Yekeen Balogun, former Chairman, Oyo State Civil Service Commission; and Alhaji Abd’Waheed Amoo. for their outstanding contributions to society.
The presentation took place on Sunday at the Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) Secretariat, Samonda, Ibadan, during the Community’s Annual General Assembly, which also featured the inauguration of its new executive council.
Penpushing further reports that the outgoing Chairman of the body Alhaji Is-haq Adekunle Sanni, in his welcome speech described Musa-Olomu as a leader who distinguished himself through exemplary leadership, humanitarian gestures and exceptional performance during his tenure as Medical Director of the health institution in Abeokuta.
The Chairman added that Musa-Olomu’s tenure witnessed significant developments in the centre, including improvements in infrastructure, enhanced quality of medical service delivery and initiatives aimed at strengthening the institution’s capacity to better serve patients and the wider community.
Penpushing also reports that Sanni equally commended the former Medical Director for his efforts toward improving staff welfare and creating an enabling environment for professional development.
The organization outgoing leader identified that Musa-Olomu played a significant role in providing employment opportunities for many Nigerians through recruitment into the hospital, thereby enabling numerous families to earn a livelihood.
Penpushing reports that he said the former Medical Director remained committed to his responsibilities despite the difficult circumstances under which he operated, noting that the recognition was therefore not merely for occupying the office of Medical Director, but for the impact of his leadership and the institutional transformation associated with his tenure.
The programme also featured a lecture titled “Leadership Role in Islam: What Is Expected of Muslims?”, delivered by the former Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, Prof. Abd’Afees Oladosu.
Penpushing further reports that Oladosu emphasised that leadership is a trust from Allah and that those entrusted with positions of authority would be accountable for their stewardship on the Day of Judgment.
The former Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, however, urged Muslims in positions of responsibility to uphold justice, integrity and accountability.
Penpushing also reports that another highlight of the programme was the presentation of the report of the Shura (Selection) Committee on the emergence of the new Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) leadership.
The committee explained that the selection process was designed to ensure broad representation across Oyo State and promote unity among the Muslim Ummah, and following the presentation, Barrister Kazeem Adekunle Gbadamosi, SAN, was unveiled as the new Chairman.
Penpushing reports that Prof. Taofeek Yekeen emerged as Secretary, alongside other members of the new executive council, who were subsequently inaugurated by Barrister Ismail Lawal, formally ushering in the new leadership of the Muslim Community of Oyo State.
The event was attended by religious leaders, former commissioners, Imams, Islamic scholars, representatives of Muslim communities and organisations, captains of industry and other distinguished guests.
Penpushing further reports that, Musa-Olomu responding on behalf of the awardees thanked the outgoing leadership of Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) for finding them worthy of recognition.
The recipient attributed his approach to leadership and service to the mentorship he received from Alhaji Kunle Sanni, Prof. Abd’Rasheed Aderinoye and Professor Emeritus S.O. Noibi, whom he described as important influences in his journey of service.
