The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic,(MAPOLY) Abeokuta has revealed its readiness to begin nine new programmes, a move said to be in its efforts to streamline the academic activities,

Penpushing reports that, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Yemi Ajibola in a statement said the Acting Rector, Dr Adeoye Odedeji disclosed this while receiving the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) National President, Tpl. Olutoyin Ayinde, in the Polytechnic as part of his working visit to Ogun State.

“The first semester examination would commence on Monday, 30th of August, and later in September, the accreditation and re-accreditation exercise of our programmes would follow.

We have planned that during the accreditation, nine new programmes would be introduced at National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels’, the rector was quoted saying.

“Computer Hardware Engineering Technology, Network and Cyber Security Technology, Software Engineering Technology have been listed. We would also introduce Social Work Development, Fisheries as well as Environmental Biology, Environmental Health Technology, Epidemiology and Disease Control Technology, Library Science and Information Technology.

Penpushing further reports that, the statement said Odedeji explained that the essence of the programmes was to plan and expand the capacity of the Polytechnic to attract new students in line with the global standard.

The Acting Rector expressed the readiness of the polytechnic for full accreditation of its Banking and Finance, Mechanical Engineering, Leisure and Tourism Management at the Higher National Diploma (HND) level.

Penpushing also reports that, the statement emphaised that, Odedeji recounted some challenges embattled the institution that warranted sloppy developmental conditions on the academic activities.

“When I came in as acting rector in December 2019, there was a backlog of unpaid six months salaries. We were on the verge of settling these salaries before the advent of coronavirus which caused great havoc to the school and global economy.

“But presently, the Polytechnic has overcome the challenges of salary payments, and other challenges too would disappear by His Grace. The July 2021 salary was fully settled on Thursday, 19th August 2021, which shows that all outstanding salary payments have been cleared”.

Penpushing reports that, the Acting Rector attributed the success to the tremendous support of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and expressed appreciation to him for permitting the management to have access money being generated.

“We are so grateful to Governor Dapo Abiodun for permitting us to have access to the money being generated because every month, we take our requests for approval, and he graciously approves it’.

“The money we generated does not belong to MAPOLY, it is a public fund, it is supposed to go straight into the treasury of Ogun State, but the Governor allowed us to have access to it after approval’.

Penpushing reports that, speaking earlier, National President of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) stressed the need for planning in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions for physical and economical growth of the nation.

Meanwhile other officials in attendance to receive the guests  include; Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Adeleye; Bursar, Mr Fatai Yekini; Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda
