A new Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for Niger State Command Abdulhamid Kabara has arrived Minna, the state capital, and this followed the suspension of Suberu Aniviye, as a result of death of alleged illegal miners in custody of the agency.
Penpushing reports that Kabara arrival on Saturday and take over from Aniviye was contained in a statement signed by spokesperson of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abubakar Muti
The statement expressed sadness over the loss of lives and sent his condolences to the families of the deceased and others affected by the incident, adding that the agency would remain committed to its statutory responsibilities, including arrest, investigation, law enforcement and the fight against illegal mining, while emphasising that the sanctity of human life must remain paramount.
“Every human life matters. The loss of any human life is painful, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families who are mourning at this difficult time,” he said.
Penpushing further reports that the new commandant stressed that law enforcement responsibilities must be carried out alongside the protection of the dignity, safety and welfare of persons in custody.
Meanwhile, in similar vein, the Commandant prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked Allah to grant their families the strength and patience to bear the loss.
