The military sabotaged of food supply to the terrorists in the forest where they camped alongside the abductees comprising teachers and pupils contributed to successful rescue of the victims when the criminals run out of supplies as well as apprehension of some of their associates who live outside their camps.
Penpushing reports that a source disclosed this, as well as informing that some of the terrorists were shot dead and others injured as well as capturing some of them, adding that shortage of food equally weakened the negotiating strength of the terrorists.
The source explained that the release of victims followed weeks of operations involving security forces from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), State Security Service (SSS), Nigerian Army, police and other security agencies
Penpushing further reports that it would be recalled that a total of 46 people consisting of 39 students and seven teachers were kidnapped when terrorists simultaneously raided Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community High School (Ahoro-Esinele), and L.A. Primary School (Ahoro-Esinele) in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State
The terrorists, however, killed one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun and later threatened to kill others if the military advance to their location identified to be within the old Oyo park
Penpushing also reports that it would be recalled that the kidnappings, which occurred on May 15,2026 sparked widespread outrage. Civil society organisations, including the Take-It-Back Movement, organised mass demonstrations in Ibadan, demanding immediate rescue operations, as well as nationwide protest by National Union of Teachers (NUT)
The Defence Headquarters through Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa later identified the abductors as dislodged members of Boko Haram, adding that the terrorists kidnapped the students to force the government to release some terror commanders, and equally threatened to kill the captives if security forces tried to rescue them.
Penpushing reports that the presidency confirmed the release of the abductees in a statement posted on Facebook, sharing their pictures by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, emphasized that finally all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by security agencies.
The Vice Principal of Community Grammar School, Alamu Folawe, who was also a victim in the video posted by the presidency, where she was surrounded by other abductees expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and security operatives for successfully securing their release
“The President, sir, we are grateful. We understand your commitment to our safety, and we appreciate all you did for us, Thank you very much. And every security operative, they tried so much, and that is why we are still alive now. We are very grateful to you. Thank you”, she said
Penpushing further reports that it would be recalled that Folawe had been filmed in previous propaganda footage released by terrorists where she was seen pleading with the government to give their abductors whatever they wanted.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Abimbola, also confirmed the release of the students and teachers, adding that additional details will be provided in due course
