The Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu on Sunday attended the eighth-day Fidau prayers in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, describing the deceased as his personal guide and confidant

Penpushing reports that Tinubu in company of other personalities pointed out that the vacuum left by Adetona’s demise is not only felt in Ijebuland but across the entire traditional institution in Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.

The President added that the late monarch was a rare leader whose reign embodied dignity, courage, and unwavering commitment to truth, stressing that his voice, leadership and generosity will echo far beyond Ijebuland

“Oba Adetona was a man of truth whose wisdom never failed to steady those who sought it. In over six decades on the throne, he ruled with rare dignity, candour, and courage, always putting the people first with an unmistakable sense of duty’, he added.

“Last Sunday, within hours, I lost two men I held in the highest esteem: my dear predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, and Kabiyesi, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the Awujale of Ijebuland,” Tinubu said.

Penpushing further reports that he prayed that Almighty Allah grant the late Oba Aljannah Firdaus and bring comfort to the people of Ijebuland and all who mourn him, stating that his reign was marked by progressive leadership, frank advocacy, and unwavering support for democratic values.

The late first class traditional ruler, joined his ancestors at 91 after 65 years on the throne, and was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential traditional rulers, who was crowned in 1960 and, until his death, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning monarchs.

Penpushing also reports that notable dignitaries in attendance include Chief Olusegun Osoba(former Governor Ogun State) Governor Dapo Abiodunof Ogun State, Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji, Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Governor of Kwara State Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq.

The others present included  Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Ibikunle Amosun,(former Governors Ogun State)  Deputy Governors of Ogun, Lagos, and Oyo states, members of the National Assembly, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Ministers, traditional rulers, among others.

Penpushing reports that Governor Abiodun earlier in his remarks described the late Awujale as a moral compass whose reign brought unprecedented development to Ijebuland.

The Governor said apart from upholding the dignity and culture of Ijebuland, the deceased was a voice for the less privileged and served as a mentor to many, adding that he made a positive impact during his lifetime.

Penpushing further reports that Abiodun noted that Awujale was a man of unshaken faith who used his position to unite his people despite their religious differences, thus promoting religious harmony in Ijebuland and the state in general.

The Governor called on the people to reflect on the life and legacies of the late traditional ruler and remain peaceful for the continued development of the state and the country.
