A prominent member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Lanre Adeyemi, popularly known as Tetu, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly to represent Odeda Constituency.

Penpushing reports that Adeyemi made the declaration on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Odeda pledging to focus on security, education, youth empowerment and overall development of the area if elected.‎

The assembly hopeful addressing party supporters after the declaration ahead of the 2027 polls explained that his ambition was driven by a strong desire to improve governance at the grassroots level and ensure that the people of Odeda Constituency enjoy the true dividends of democracy.

Penpushing further reports that he stated that governance must be people-oriented and impactful, stressing that his focus would be on policies and programmes that directly affect the lives of ordinary citizens.

‎“My intention is clear and straightforward. It is to enhance governance in Odeda Constituency, to bring development closer to our people and to ensure that everyone enjoys what democracy is truly about,” Adeyemi said.

‎Penpushing also reports that, he emphasised that his legislative agenda would be centred on improving the welfare of residents, promoting inclusive development and creating opportunities that would uplift the socio-economic standard of the constituency.

‎The aspirant identified security as the foundation upon which every other form of development rests, noting that without adequate protection of lives and property, meaningful progress cannot be achieved.

‎“Security of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government. When there is security, there will be progress, there will be improvement and there will be development. That is why it will be my top priority,” he stated.

‎Penpushing reports that Adeyemi explained that his approach to governance would involve collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including security agencies, community leaders and youth groups, to ensure a safer environment for residents.

The aspirant on education, disclosed plans to sponsor bills that would make basic education free and compulsory for children up to the Junior Secondary School level, describing education as a critical tool for societal transformation.

‎Penpushing further reports that he said access to quality education remains a fundamental right that must be guaranteed for every child, regardless of background.

‎“I am planning to sponsor bills that will make it mandatory for government, whether at the state or local level, to provide free education for our children from the foundational stage up to Junior Secondary School. Education is key to development, and we must invest in our children,” he said.

‎Penpushing also reports that Adeyemi speaking on youth development and employment, stressed the need to engage young people in productive activities, warning that unemployment and idleness often lead to increased crime and social vices.

‎The politician pointed out that empowering the youth would not only improve their livelihoods but also contribute to the overall peace and growth of the constituency.

‎“Youth are very important in any society. When they are engaged and productive, crime rate will reduce significantly. But when they are idle, they can easily be influenced into negative activities,” he said.

‎Penpushing reports that he added that his plans include creating opportunities across various sectors such as agriculture, education and small-scale enterprises, where young people can be trained and supported to become self-reliant.

‎The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant highlighted the importance of involving young people in governance and decision-making processes, noting that their energy and ideas are essential for sustainable development.

‎Penpushing further reports that he expressed confidence in the chances of the party in the forthcoming elections, stating that the party is working tirelessly to reposition itself and regain leadership in the state, and specifically expressed optimism about the emergence of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP-led) government, adding that collaborative efforts among party members would strengthen their chances at the polls.

‎The former Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Hon. Kayode Akintunde in his remarks, described Adeyemi as a disciplined, committed and capable individual who has what it takes to represent the constituency effectively.

‎Penpushing also reports that Akintunde noted that the party was exploring the option of a consensus arrangement among aspirants, stressing that unity within the party would be crucial to achieving electoral success.

‎The chieftain of the party recalled the period when the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) was in power, stating that the people of Odeda enjoyed significant benefits during that time, adding that party members have continued to make sacrifices to sustain the party, expressing optimism that the PDP would bounce back stronger in the next election cycle.

‎Penpushing reports that a party member from Obantoko Ward, Lydia Adeola, in her remarks commended Adeyemi for his consistency, dedication and support for party members over the years, noting that he has remained active within the party since 2022, always making himself available whenever needed.

‎“He is a good and reliable person. Whenever the party calls on him, especially in Obantoko Ward, he is always there to support. He listens to people and carries everyone along,” she said.

‎Penpushing further reports that Adeola expressed hope that Adeyemi would emerge as the preferred candidate among the aspirants contesting for the position, noting that his emergence would bring unity and stability within the party, adding that many party members believe in his ability to deliver effective representation if elected into office.

‎The declaration event also provided an opportunity for party stakeholders to interact, deliberate on party strategies and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Odeda Constituency.
