Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday visited the corporate headquarters of Penpushing Media to assess students of Mass Communication undergoing a three-month practical training.
Penpushing reports that, the team led by former Head of Department of Mas Communication of the Institution, Dr. Sina Aina accompanied by Mrs Abolore Adeyemi, Director of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme(SIWES) said the check was aimed at measuring the students performances.
The team leader expressed appreciation to the Penpushing management for imparting practical knowledge on the students, explaining that the visit was to assess the students attached to different media organisations for field experience in journalism in order to add to their practical experience.
Penpushing further reports that, Aina during the visit called on the interns to share their experiences on the field, and in turn the trainees appreciated the roles being played by Penpushing media, adding that, they have been more exposed to practical journalism.
The former Head of Department encouraged the students to know that, it is good to serve and be good ambassadors as the training will make them better professionals, just as he warned them against plagiarism and other unethical practices.
Penpushing also reports that the Director of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme(SIWES) in her remarks, encouraged the students to be diligent, be good ambassadors of the institution, and cautioned them to avoid wayward lifestyle and provocative dresses that may cause sexual harassment or molestation on them.
Penpushing further reports that earlier the founder of the media organisation, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji had said the students have continued to benefits from the professional integrity of the media organization.
The founder, who has served as the Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), said that the Editorial Board policy of discipline, good conduct, truthfulness and ethical journalism practices were spelt out to them before acceptance, adding that the interns have continued to abide religiously to the rules.
Penpushing reports that, the media guru added that as part of the organization’s roles in producing competent and qualitative reporters, through practical training, it ensures that the students were assigned to cover various beats, adding that the management also encouraged them by publishing their newsworthy stories with bylines.
The founder expressed optimism and confidence that at the end of their practical training, they would have improved on how to source for news, write good stories and identified news among other relevant experience in journalism practice.
