The undergraduates of University of Jos(UNIJOS), who are Ogun State indigenes have accused the government of abandoning them in the wake of the crisis which rocked the town, but the government in a swift response said those behind the allegation were being sponsored by faceless group.

Penpushing reports that, in a video which had gone viral, the students while protesting said, they were evacuated from Jos on the order of the Ogun State Government, with assurances that they were to be taken back to the state, adding that contrary to that, the government took them to liason office Abuja, where they have since been abandoned to their fates.

The male leader of the students who spoke in reaction to the development said the Ogun State Government had reneged in its promise to take them back home, and therefore made a distress to their parents

‘We dey Ogun state house like this, they brought us from our school, although, there was crisis, and they say they came to our rescue, they bring us to their liaison office in Abuja and abandoned us here, and they are telling us, we should go and transport ourselves to our various homes with our money’, the aggrieved student said,

‘Wwe  have our money from the start. We have transport, because our parents are sponsoring us in school. But then they came to play politics with our number.. They came to tell us that they are going to take us to our destination, which is Ogun state’, he added.

‘Now look at our bags, look at us, they wanted to abandoned us here, it is wrong, it is unfair, so we are making a distress call to the Ogun state government, for them, make den come back live, dem dey fuck up. If den dey carry us to house, make dem come, if dey no wan carry us, make dem talk

Penpushing further reports that, another female student who identified herself as Emmanueal Ibikun from Ado-Odo Ota local government while speaking, said government was not fair to them

‘It is actually funny that Ogun state governor will come to our rescue, they say they came to our ‘rescue’, and bring us to Abuja to be stranded, we all have our transportation, our parents are sponsoring our education, and they told us they are going to bring us down to Ogun State, we left Jos in the middle of crisis. We need security, you can’t say because we are in Abuja, you should leave us stranded in Abuja, to find our way home’,she emphasised

Penpushing also reports that, Special Adviser to the Governor on Students Affairs, Azeez Adeyemi in response to the protest and claimed of the aggrieved students said some of the students were instigated to create a scene with the intention of maligning the good effort of the state government

‘On Sunday 22nd of August, 2021, the state government embarked on an evacuation mission  in a bid to save lives of students of the UNIJOS who are indigenes of Ogun state from the ongoing mayhem in Plateau state’,he explained.

‘Five buses were deployed to transport the identified students away from the trouble zone, they arrived Abuja around 10:25pm and were received at the liaison office. Despite arriving very late, the liaison office made accommodation available to the 59 students and also provided them with light menu’, Adeyemi added

‘ On Monday 23rd, August, 2021 a proper profiling of the students was embarked upon to ascertain the origin of the students with a view to identify those that are truly from the state so as to provide further logistics for their final journey’, he said.

‘Unfortunately, on sensing the move, some of the students were instigated to create a scene with the intention of maligning the good effort of the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun(MFR)’

‘However, the state liaison office was able to overcome the ugly incident and with further support from the Governor, arrangements was made for a luxurious bus to convey those genuinely confirmed to be of the state origin down to Abeokuta’.

‘A disbursement of the sum of N5,000  each was also given to the student courtesy of the state, the team is expected to arrive Abeokuta early tomorrow morning(Wednesday) bearing any unforeseen circumstances’, Adeyemi emphasised
