The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced introduction of a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Mock Trial for underage students who are not eligible to register for examination.

Penpushing reports that the board registrar Prof Is-haq Oloyede made the announcement during a presentation at a stakeholder meeting with media executives on Tuesday, explaining that the mock trial is to help them prepare ahead of the actual Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) after they must have reached the age of 16.

The Ministry of Education it is recalled last year pegged the age for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions at 16, just as record has it that about 1.5 million candidates are expected to sit the computer-based test which serves as entry examination into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Penpushing further reports that Oloyede in related development announced January31, 2025 as the commencement date for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, explaining that an advertisement containing all necessary information for registration would be published and aired on radio and television stations on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

The board registrar added that the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration begins Friday January 31, and ends on Saturday, March 8, 2025, stating that the registration for Direct Entry (DE) begins on Monday, March 10, and ends on Monday, April 7, 2025.

Penpushing also reports that he equally gave the cost for registration as follows. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) (without Mock) is N7,200, Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with Mock is N8,200, Direct Entry fee is N5,700 and Trial Testing Mock only (for underage candidates) for N3,500, explaining that candidates will not pay any money as service charge to any computer-based test centre.
