The Nigeria’s President, Mohammed Buhari has declared that he is now ready to pick his successor ahead of the 2023 poll, noting that, he has realized the compelling need for him to provide stronger leadership before and after leaving office.
Penpushing reports that, Buhari made this known on Tuesday at a meeting held with Governors elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), which took place at the State House, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT).
The President, however, called on the All Progressives Congress(APC) Governors to support him towards realizing the objective, noting that this became necessary in keeping with the internal policies of the party, as the party approach its convention
“In keeping with the established internal policies of the Party and as we approach the Convention in a few days, therefore, I wish to solicit the reciprocity and support of the Governors and other stakeholders in picking my successor, who would fly the flag of our party for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023,” he emphasized.
Penpushing further reports that Buhari at the meeting which had in attendance National Chairman of the party, pointed out that, the stronger leadership is not only to ensure that All ProgressivesCongress (APC’s) electoral fortunes improve but also to ensure that the party retains power at the federal level by winning the presidential election.
The President explained that the factors he would consider in supporting a presidential candidate among the 25 persons seeking to fly the party flag, was the objective victory of the party, while choice must be a candidate who will give Nigerians confidence
“Our objective must be the victory of our party and our choice of candidate must be someone who would give the Nigerian masses a sense of victory and confidence even before the elections’, Buhari emphasised.
