A 42-year-old housewife, Ngozi Onwuasoalya has been arrested by the Taraba State Police Command, for allegedly burning the lips of her eight-year-old stepgrandson, Julius Chinecherim, who is now on admission at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Wukari.
Penpushing reports that the Acting Public Relations Officer of the command Gambo Kwache the development and arrest of the suspect, adding that the case was before the criminal investigation department while the culprit was in custody at the Wukari division.
The suspect allegedly burned the lips of the stepgrandson with firewood for misplacing N500, and the woman was subsequently arrested on Wednesday following a tip-off from concerned community members.
Penpushing further reports that the Chairman of Wukari Local Government, Samaila Dauda, also confirmed the incident. explaining that the authorities have acted quickly in response to the situation, and the accused is currently in detention.
The council boss said the accused woman would be charged in court soon, just as a community member Julius Iliya, urged the state government and child protection organisations to intervene and called for measures to protect vulnerable children in the state against domestic abuse.
