Hoodlums use petrol-soaked bread to set ablaze independent national electoral commission’s office

Suspected hoodlums on Thursday used bread soaked with petrol to set ablaze the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) located at the back of Ede South Local Government Secretariat at Oke Iresi in Ede, Osun State.

Penpushing reports that, the fire was observed to have started from the commission conference room at about 10am and spread to other parts of the building, was about spreading to  a warehouse where sensitive materials were kept, when firefighters arrived to control it.

The sources at the scene hinted that the arsonists targeted some of the sensitive materials, but the prompt intervention of the firemen made the fire to be restricted to the conference room, adding that if not, the fire would have gotten to the store and all other offices.

Penpushing further reports that, the source explained that, the arsonists arrived the commission office which is the hometown of the Osun State Governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke, tore the net with a knife, broke the window, and set the conference room ablaze

“The prompt intervention of the firemen made the fire to be restricted to the conference room, if not, the fire would have gotten to the store and all other offices. It was a planned arson, They tore the net with a knife, broke the window, and set the conference room ablaze. Their main target was the sensitive materials but fortunately, the firefighters arrived before it extended to other places’, the source emphasised

Penpushing also reports that, as at the time of filing this report, the new Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Barrister Mutiu Agboke, was yet to make official statement on the ugly development

The Public Relations Officer of  the  of Osun State Fire Service, Ibrahim Adekunle in the same vein, was yet to react to the incident, as well as the  Police Command Public Relations Officer,  Yemisi Opalola, as at the time of this report.
