The advanced team of President Muhammad Buhari on Tuesday had a bitter taste of suspected gunmen who attacked the convoy while heading ahead of the President’s trip to Daura, his hometown for Sallah, a development which resulted in two of the officials sustaining injuries

Penpushing reports that, the attack which affected security guards, protocol and media officers, occurred near Dutsinma, Katsina State, when the gunmen opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, confirmed the  attack in a statement on Tuesday, adding that, the attackers opened fire, but were repelled by the military, police and Department of Security Service(DSS) personnel accompanying the convoy.

Penpushing further reports that, Shehu in a statement he tagged, ’Gallant Presidential Guards Repel Attack on Advance Team Ahead of President Visit’  described the incident as sad, adding that as at the time of filing this report the injured are receiving treatment

“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy. Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura,” he wrote.

‘The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah’, he added.

‘The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy. Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura’, Shehu stated
