Gunmen on Friday evening launched another round of attack in Igangan, a community in Ibarapa North local government of Oyo State, killing a leader of Amotekun Corps and three others.

Penpushing reports that, an eyewitness said the gunmen in military uniform arrived at the community with two Hilux vans, an 18-seater Hummer bus, and a Toyota Sienna bus, and thereafter launched the attack.

The convener of Igangan Development Advocate, Oladiran Oladokun, while confirming the attack said the gunmen came in military camouflage to deceive the residents and change the narrative that it was security operatives who stormed the town in search of those who engage in smuggling activities”.

Penpushing further reports that, as at the time of filing this report the Commandant of Amotekun in the State, Olayinka Olayanju, was yet to make public statement on the ugly development, but an operative of the corps who preferred anonymity said that there was a quick intervention that forced the assailants to retreat, and thereafter escaped through Tapa axis. They killed three residents and one of our leaders”

The  Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, was as the time of filing this report yet to make any official statement, while the Nigerian Army spokeman, Mohammed Yarima, could not be reached to confirm whether soldiers truly raided the community or not.

Penpushing also reports that,it is recalled that, last month  assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen  , carrying out a reprisal stormed the community overnight killing many people in the process.

The incident came months after Fulani families and their leader, Abdulkadir Salihu, were forcefully evicted from the town by a mob led by an acclaimed warlord, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Igboho.

Penpushing reports that, the Fulani leader ,was accused of masterminding Fulani attacks such as rape, murder, destruction of farms, and abductions in Igangan, but he  denied the allegations, that didn’t save him from being ejected from a community he had lived in for decades.
